Coming Around … Slowly

After sending our last week’s “Thirst”, I resolved to push myself a little this week, with the intent of getting at least a little resemblance to a routine going in my life,  Thus I have risen from bed a little earlier than previous weeks, while trying to retire approximately the same time each evening.  After being very irregular in exercising for a long time, I have walked every morning – though only half the distance of my previous days.  It is my theory that these little adjustments will improve my sleep and health.

we admit and confess our sinfulness. By our words and actions we have turned away from You and dishonored You. We have put our hope in ourselves, and have forsaken Your will and Your ways. We have not honored You with our obedience, and we have not loved our neighbors as we ought. Forgive us, renew us, and

Slow and Slower

Initially I thought the headline for today should be “Unproductive and Unmotivated” but then switched to “Slow and Slower” as I realized I possessed the desire to write and send this but would never accomplish it by Thursday morning. Hopefully you will see me as “semi-productive and semi-motivated” at this time. We admit and confess our sinfulness. We have turned away from each other in our thinking, speaking, and doing. We have done the evil you forbid and have not done the good you demand. We do repent and are truly sorry for these our sins. Have mercy on us, kind Father, because of the obedience of our brother, Jesus Christ, your Son. Forgive us all that is past, and with the power of the Holy Spirit move us to serve you faithfully. Set our feet upon the new path of life, and build your kingdom here through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

God has promised forgiveness of sins to those who repent and turn to him. Upon this your confession, I, by virtue
of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

June 2023 Congregational Connector

as a recap, voters who attended the Voters Assembly on May 23 approved a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 and elected a full slate of officers to serve on various boards and committees. The installation took place during the church service on June 18. St. Thomas is blessed to have such strong and committed servants to run and manage the various areas of the church.

Three Words

A synonym (according to Merriam-Webster) is “two or more words or expressions of the same language that have the same or nearly the same meaning in some or all senses”.  The three words I am thinking of today are generally considered synonymous.  My suggestion to you this day is that their meaning is NOT the same in every sense – and that the difference is significant.
