We are fast approaching our MCREST week at the end of September from the 24th to the 30th. We will be responsible for food, laundry products and transportation expenses for approximately 55 women and children. Please prayerfully consider a monetary donation to our MCREST restricted funds. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Ever since we moved from our home in Eastpointe to the condo (7 years ago), we have been in regular contact with the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA). In particular, we place unwanted and slightly used items in boxes and bags, go to their website to book a pickup date, and then appropriately place the items on our front porch. There was a time when they seemed to be coming weekly for up to a dozen boxes each time. Now the visits are much farther apart and the number of boxes smaller.
Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

The MLB Trade Deadline each year is somewhere around July 31. This year it was 6:00 p.m. on August 1 … and, just as happened a few years ago, Justin Verlander was traded to the Houston Astros. Max Scherzer is now with the Texas Rangers, Jamer Candelario is back with the Chicago Cubs, and Michael Lorenzen will finish the season in Philadelphia. Edwin Rodriguez used a clause in his contract to nix a trade, preferring to remain a Tiger, at least for the rest of this season.

The week has been very busy, but that really is no excuse. The truth is, I did not even wake up early enough to get an early start today. I simply have no excuse for not having this one on time.
We admit and confess our sinfulness. We have turned away from each other in our thinking, speaking, and doing. We have done the evil you forbid and have not done the good you demand. We do repent and are truly sorry for these our sins. Have mercy on us, kind Father, because of the obedience of our brother, Jesus Christ, your Son. Forgive us all that is past, and with the power of the Holy Spirit move us to serve you faithfully. Set our feet upon the new path of life, and build your kingdom here through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

One week from tomorrow Monica and I will be attending a 50th anniversary reunion. In many ways it is hard to believe that it is already 50 years since I graduated from Concordia Junior College, Ann Arbor (now Concordia University). Then again, in other ways it seems like a few lifetimes ago. It will be interesting to see who shows up, and who we remember. Though it is a two-day affair, we decided that one evening was sufficient time for all the catching up we would be interested in.
