Kintsukuroi, translated to mean “Golden Repair”, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer mixed with powdered precious metals like gold, silver or platinum. Once the object is repaired, cleaned and dried, its former cracks are highlighted by veins of the metal running through its form.
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear [Jesus]. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

Over the years I have always preceded my morning walk/run with a variety of stretching exercises. I twist my trunk, spread my legs and touch the floor, rotate my shoulders, etc. Years ago a doctor friend of mine emphasized how helpful and valuable this in staying limber, especially as we get older. However sometime in the past year I stopped doing my stretches. I have no idea why or when!

Legend (?) has him miraculously driving snakes out of Ireland and into the sea, using the three leaflets of the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity, and raising 33 people from the dead. Today Detroit and much of the world celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day. I myself have had a green beer or two over the years in celebration of the day.

In the reading of Brené Brown’s latest book, “Atlas of the Heart” (Random House, 2021) I came across a new term – at least new to me. It seemed so timely that I decided to simply share with you a few pages of the book. Brené is a Christian (though she does not wear it on her sleeve), a research professor at the University of Houston, a best-selling author, and a speaker on courage and leadership.
The Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.” (Isaiah 61.1) As I noted in the service this word was not just for Isaiah in his day. In our day God continues to anoint people to bring the same good news to us. And then, as God in Christ thus liberates us, he simultaneously anoints us (you and me) to share his word of liberation with others. I was then amazed at the many different ways and opportunities to proclaim liberty God placed before me throughout the day.
