What a dark and difficult world this can be. It often is hard enough listening to the news, but when this darkness travels up-close and personal, it becomes all the more difficult. Financial struggles … mental health issues … hospice care … prejudice … broken relationships … undesired consequences … extreme fatigue … you name it, I have encountered it over the past couple weeks in the lives of people whom I love and who are close to me.

Tell me if you have ever been here or not: You know that you have a very busy schedule in front of you, and your focus upon its business drains some (or much) of your needed energy even before you begin. In other words, just when you need all of your energy, and perhaps a little more, you find yourself wasting some of that energy on thoughts that in essence are counterproductive. The end result is that you have made the tasks in front of you more difficult than they originally were.

As AmeriCorps continues their hard work, our Children’s Outreach House gets closer and closer to needing professional work done. This week, we have had incredible community members and local professionals putting in subfloors, preparing for plumbing, and teaching Aspen 1 how to add insulation. But we are still looking for people with the knowledge to teach our volunteers how to finish certain projects! If you know how to do any of the following work and are willing to come for a day or even a few hours to instruct our team, we would be so grateful! Please share this with anyone you know who has these skills! We can be flexible on the days if need be.

The BOD has approved a request of Rev. Deitrick Gladden, the pastor at Charity and Mount Calvary, Detroit whom we have been assisting, to rent a little office space from STL for Gladden Ministries, which supports places of hope in Africa and other foreign countries, providing Lutheran support to orphanages in the Congo and Haiti.

Last night – or, technically, this morning – we arrived at the cottage a little after midnight. The night before I had worked on a document until finally retiring around 10:00 p.m., and then was back at church by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday then was way too busy to even start outlining something, so here I am, up again at 6:30 a.m. trying to figure out what to write.
