Last week Monica and I had the pleasure of spending a few days at Boyne Mountain for a pastors’ conference. You might recall that the weather at the beginning of last week was very different from that of this week’s beginning. We had clear skies, crisp mornings, and afternoons where the temperature rose past 70 degrees. You certainly cannot beat that for mid-October in northern Michigan. All I can say is, “What a beautiful world God has given to us.”

On Monday, October 17 at 6 pm, STL will be having an Open Forum in the church. This forum will be an informational meeting to start the development of a pastor profile that will assist district in forming a call list. Dr. Rob Casper from the district office will be here to go over our survey information and answer any questions we might have. All are encouraged to attend.
For many people it is GRATITUDE to God as he provides for their every need. Some people are motivated by their COMMITMENT to the mission and ministry of STL – they see what God is doing here and wish to do all they can to support it.

No, I am not talking about the Tigers’ record since they hired a new president – though it was sweet until they landed in Seattle. I am not even talking about the beautiful weather that closed out our summer and has carried us into autumn – though I could easily be talking about this, too. In some ways I am talking about Hymn 524 in the Lutheran Service Book, but that is not really clear enough. Specifically, I am addressing how the name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear.
This year, we will be going back to our pre-Covid formal dinner and auction! The evening will be full of delicious food, great conversations, and celebration of all the things our community was able to accomplish this year. But don’t worry!
