In the reading of Brené Brown’s latest book, “Atlas of the Heart” (Random House, 2021) I came across a new term – at least new to me. It seemed so timely that I decided to simply share with you a few pages of the book. Brené is a Christian (though she does not wear it on her sleeve), a research professor at the University of Houston, a best-selling author, and a speaker on courage and leadership.
bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.” (Isaiah 61.1) As I noted in the service this word was not just for Isaiah in his day. In our day God continues to anoint people to bring the same good news to us. And then, as God in Christ thus liberates us, he simultaneously anoints us (you and me) to share his word of liberation with others. I was then amazed at the many different ways and opportunities to proclaim liberty God placed before me throughout the day.
by the way (and by the grace of God in Christ), I find most of mine to be this way. This week, in fact, seems to be filling up with some of the best among the better!
Have you ever wondered which came first “must” or “musty”? And how are they related – if they are related at all? Of course, by now you might be thinking that “he must be crazy” for asking these questions … or just plain “musty”!
I had the day perfectly planned. It would start with an appointment in the office. After that was just enough gap in my schedule to squeeze in two drop-in visits. These would be followed by two that were scheduled, leaving enough time to add one more at the end of the day.
So, what are you planning to be up to today? The snowfall, though considerably less than predicted – again, is enough to close schools and change plans. My Thursday groups and our GSRP Preschool are cancelled for today, and our office is closed.
Wikipedia tells me that “A ripple effect occurs when an initial disturbance to a system propagates outward to disturb an increasingly larger portion of the system, like ripples expanding across the water when an object is dropped into it.” This may not be a very exciting opening sentence, but at least I didn’t continue to where the explanation gets into macroeconomics! What I really want you to think about is “Drop a stone into a lake and try to see how far out the ripples extend.”
over a week ago, and it is still clean. I will take the sub-zero wind chill with clear (or cloudy) skies that is soon to return over snow covered roads any and every day (except Christmas – maybe!).
It was a long, but productive day. It started earlier than usual, and my evening was scheduled too. The day fell in the middle of a ten day stretch that was particularly busy, so when my head hit the pillow at 9:30 p.m. sleep came almost instantly. I opened my eyes at 2:00 a.m., glanced at the clock, and immediately fell back asleep. The next thing I knew it was 5:30 a.m. and time to rise to a new day.
So, how as 2022 started off for you? Did you start the year off with multiple resolutions … or did you rid yourself of that practice in years gone by? Are you briming with optimism and hope, trembling with fear and trepidation, or somewhere in-between? I guess it also could be true that your response is, “2022? I am not done with 2021 yet!” (though it seems as though I have mostly heard people saying “good riddance” to 2021) I know of more than a few who started the year with a foul taste in their mouth following the Orange Bowl debacle the night before.
