The Jews answered [Jesus], “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”

God has declared, “In the last days it shall be that I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.”

Decades after the first Easter, our Lord Jesus, in a vision, revealed to St. John what would take place in the cosmos in the new age that began with our Lord’s first coming and will end when he returns. Today’s conclusion reminds us that Jesus can return any day.

In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Saint Thomas and Christ the King are having a combined Vacation Bible School this summer (June 20-24)! At VBS we’ll learn about Jesus, our Savior, through five Bible stories, meet new friends, do fun activities, sing great songs, make crafts, play games, eat snacks, and more! We join today in singing eternal alleluias with innumerable angels in festal gathering, with the assembly of those who have gone before us, those gathered with us around the globe this day, and with all those who will follow, bringing these petitions before You, dear Father

Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, slain for us, and we remember the promise made that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of peace around the table of the King.

As Holy Week draws near and our annual journey with Jesus to the cross reminds us of how Jesus “for the joy set before him endured,” so the reading leading up to today’s sermon text reminds us that “being found in Christ” changes everything. Please listen as we pick up Philippians 3 with verse 8.
