We admit and confess our sinfulness. We have turned away from each other in our thinking, speaking, and doing. We have done the evil you forbid and have not done the good you demand. We do repent and are truly sorry for these our sins. Have mercy on us, kind Father, because of the obedience of our Brother, Jesus Christ, your Son. Forgive us all that is past, and with the power of the Holy Spirit move us to serve you faithfully. Set our feet upon the new path of life, and build your kingdom here through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Leadership

As May turned into June, the Detroit Tigers lost 3 (or was it 4?) starting players in two days.  A week or two later another starting outfielder was injured which meant, until a day or so later, their top 5 outfielders were not on the roster – along with their #1 starter.  This, of course, did not include their top 3 up-and-coming pitchers who have been down for a long time.

Scattered Thoughts

I wonder if it is “even” or “more-so” that in retirement I find my thoughts frequently scattered, in many directions on different topics with little to connect them?  I understood this while working, because in pastoral ministry one never really knew which (or how many) directions the days of a week would head.  But I thought that in retirement, when I don’t really have anything on my mind, it would be different … especially this week, which shaped up to be one of the first “normal” ones since February 19.

The Athanasian Creed proclaims that its teachings concerning the Holy Trinity and our Lord’s incarnation are the catholic faith. In other words, this is what the true church of all times and all places has confessed. More than 15 centuries later, the church continues to confess this truth, confident that the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, has given himself for our salvation.

Heavenly Pours

Over the past year – or so – different people have suggested that something I could do – in retirement or before – was to put into book form – or something similar – some of the stories and memories I have shared during my years of ministry.  This is an activity I am seriously considering, though “retirement life” will need to slow down considerably if this is to happen.  If, though, I were to start on the project today, the title I would give it would be “Heavenly Pours”.

We poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. O Lord God, grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and Your will, and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
