Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not daughter of Zion; behold your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.

Going with God’s Flow

We were having a delightful supper at Applebee’s.  We had prayed for Rachel, our waitress, and her son Raemar.  With the bottomless sides and bountiful sandwiches, we were more than content.  It was then that Rachel returned – sat down with us and gave us much more information on her life and her son.  She made our evening special … it’s so much fun “going with God’s flow.”

Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the striches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.”

No Fooling Around

Tuesday morning I allowed myself to sleep in a little past 7:00 (those west coast baseball games are killers).  Thinking I could have a pretty lazy morning, I proceeded to embark on my morning walk.  Then suddenly, at about the ¾ point of my two-mile trek, I remembered that I had a 9:30 meeting with fellow pastors from the circuit at St. Peter’s Eastpointe!  I finished my walk, got cleaned up and dressed, and jumped in my car.  There was no time for fooling around.  I arrived about 9:35 – just as the worship service was about to begin.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning; and though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant that we may heartily acknowledge Your merciful goodness, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Herky-Jerky

It’s been a herky-Jerky return from a great vacation (though bipolar may be the more appropriate term, I prefer herky-jerky).  On the one hand, my energy level is low and I am fighting a cold.  On the other hand, life as been extremely busy (though I must admit the NCAA basketball tournament is a contributor to the situation).

Change … or Not!

When keeping score at a baseball game, numbers are used for each of the defensive positions. One is the pitcher, two the catcher, three is first base, four is second base, five is third base, and six is shortstop. Seven, eight and nine then cover left, center and right fields. Thus a shortstop to second to first double play is recorded 6-4-3 DP. As far as I know, this has not changed.

On the Road Again

It’s almost 44 years ago now … we were moving to St. Louis, MO … Monica, Matthew, and my mom in our orange Nove … My dad and I driving the old red, International Harvester farm truck loaded with most of our earthly belongings … and Willie Nelson on the radio.  “On the road again, I just can’t wait to get on the road again, the life I love is making music with my friends, and I can’t wait to get on the road again. … On the road again, goin’ places that I’ve never been, seein’ things that I may never see again, and I can’t wait to get on the road again.”  As I think about it now, I’m not sure that we knew any of the lyrics beyond “on the road again.”

O Lord God, You led Your ancient people through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land. Guide the people of Your Church that following our Savior we may walk through the wilderness of this world toward the glory of the world to come; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
